Taling Ngam Beach
Taling Ngam is a long stretch of white sand beach between Lipa Noi and Thong Tanote on the west coast of Koh Samui. It is a good beach for a holiday as the water is clean and suitable for swimming. The area is very picturesque as it is surrounded by jungle. There is a small fishing village and a few good local seafood restaurants on the beach.
One of the great points about Taling Ngam is that it is a west facing beach. As a result there is a beautiful sunset every night to enjoy. In the distance several of the Angthong National Park islands can be seen which futher adds charm to the view from Taling Ngam beach. As you can see from the picture above Taling Ngam has a romantic quality that is hard to beat when the sun goes down.
Taling Ngam is one of the least developed parts of Koh Samui. There are a few budget bungalow set-ups and a few mid-range resorts to choose from. You won't find much of a nightlife in Taling Ngam. Those looking for bars and late night entertainment need a beach closer than Taling Ngam to Chaweng. One of the best seafood restaurants in Koh Samui is in Taling Ngam. It is the Five Islands Restaurant that also organizes tours to the nearby 5 islands that are used by Sea Gypsies. The tour includes watching the Sea Gypsies climb bamboo poles to reach birds' nests that are later sold to make birds nest soup. The tour is rated as the second best activity in Koh Samui according the Lonely Planet.
Taling Ngam is for those people who look to escape the crowds and seek golden sands and palm trees.
The area has a few private residential developments in the surrounding hills. With the current downturn in the world economy there might be some good deals available on private villa rental in Taling Ngam.
