Bophut is a small fishing village on the north coast of Koh Samui, near the airport. It is a boutique resort area with a beautiful stretch of white sand. Bophut has a great range of shops, restaurants and bars. Many of the buildings in Bophut Fisherman's Village have kept the original wooden Chinese architecture.
Bophut is a more laid back area than either Lamai or Chaweng, and doesn't have a 'beer bar' scene. The accommodation on Bophut ranges from mid-range to boutique luxury. There are a few resorts in the village but most are on a long stretch of beach next to the village.
There's also the Big Buddha monument nearby to visit. Other attractions in the immediate area include a go cart track and a monkey show. Canopy Adventures in Bophut have 500 meters of zip line from which you can view the canopy of the tropical forest in Koh Samui. There is also a growing yachting scene in Bophut. Near the pier is Saard's Watersport Center that has 4 boats that do day trips. They are also available for private charter. The graceful lines of the catamaran named 'Kindred Spirit' can often be seen moored off the coast.
A ferry service from Bophut runs to Haad Rin in Koh Phangan for people interested in going to the biggest Full Moon Party in Thailand. It takes about 50 minutes. Bophut is also conveniently located just 10 minutes by taxi from Samui Airport.
It should be remembered that the entrances to Bophut Beach accommodation is on the main road to Maenam. Alternatively, you can enter the resorts from the beach.
